Gyro-balanced and Small

 

I needed to see how small an auto-balancing camera might be made; and so I performed a few studies with different sized servos and off-the-shelf cameras. A 9-axis IMU is sensing the roll of each camera and the Arduino sketch offsets the position of the servo to counter the roll angle and keep the camera level. I built a pitch+roll study as well. As you can see the GoPro was heaver so it's motor needed more torque which made it slower. A deconstructed webcam glued to a micro-servo showed promise although wasn't responsive enough to really stabilize the footage completely.
